Overview
This assignment challenged us to design, prepare, and print a folded 4inx5in custom greeting card. Full-bleed design, gradient fills, custom patterns, basic shapes, drawing modes, and saved print-ready PDF files were required. I had so much fun with this project and seeing how my design developed from what I had first envisioned and designed. I really challenged myself to use gradients in a way that made my design feel less flat. I also challenged myself to get used to the Illustrator drawing modes, especially the draw inside mode, when it came to the front of my card inside that big rectangular shape. Initially, I had also made my pattern with really bright, retro, 70s-ish colors but I found that it looked better with a more muted color palette. My entire idea for this card came about because I had been messing with the blend tool and had accidentally created a slinky shape! I ended up using this same slinky shape in my Planet Rave poster design project. I'm glad I pushed myself to keep developing this idea and I'm very pleased with the quality of my printed and folded card.
